Do you Struggle with Binge Eating?

Binge eating has nothing to do with willpower and much to do with nutrient deficiencies that impact the brain. Read more in this important article.

Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is often a silent struggle but it is a collective problem as it is 3 times more common than anorexia and bulimia.

According to Funcational Medicine Psychiatrist, Dr. James Greenblatt, "binge eating occurs when the body and brain are unable to regulate appetite. It is a neurobiological disorder", meaning that binge eating has nothing to do with willpower and much to do with nutrient deficiencies that impact the brain.

People who suffer from binge eating typically have a deficiency in essential amino acids, which are the precursors to producing neurotransmitters and neuropeptides that are key for regulating appetite, balancing mood and preventing addiction and cravings. Amino acids come from eating a high animal based diet but if digestion is impaired and there is insufficient stomach acid (Betaine Hydrochloric Acid), then the digestion, absorption and assimilation of these proteins is suboptimal making it very difficult for amino acids to convert to an ample supply of neurotransmitters. Those eating a vegetarian or vegan diet have even less supply of amino acids.

 

I have a protocol which I have learned from Dr. James Greenblatt, for binge eating that address these deficincies. It is a 4 step process utilizing 4 key supplements that optimize digestion, amino acids and the nutrient cofactors and precursors to ensuring that the neurotransmitters and neuropetides are being produced so that hunger, satiety, fullness, pleasure and appetite control are   experienced.

 

Once the neurobiology is optimized and my clients have improved regulation with food and binge eating episodes become fewer and farther between, then we can explore the other factors that may be contributing to binge eating episodes such as imbalaned nutrition, emotional and mental stress and a disconnect to purpose.
